Hailing from Paris, France, Rose Noir is a producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist operating at the intersection of jazz-funk, hip-hop, and cinematic music. Drawing deep inspiration from 70s film soundtracks, rare music libraries, and the golden age of hip-hop, his sound is sophisticated, deeply textured, and impossible to pin down. The name says it all: the rose for beauty, delicacy, and power — the noir for depth, darkness, and contrast. Together, they form a sound palette that is evocative, mystical, and mysterious.

Rose Noir is the latest creative evolution of one of music's most accomplished artists. A lifelong love of hip-hop ignited a passion for DJing that would see him rise to become a two-time DMC World Champion turntablist as DJ Troubl'. A decade later, he helped pioneer one of electronic music's most explosive genres as UZ — widely credited as one of the originators of trap EDM — collaborating with A-list artists and performing on some of the world's most iconic stages, including Coachella, Sónar, EDC Las Vegas, and many more across the globe.

More than twenty years into his career, Rose Noir is his most personal work yet — a project literally born from a dream. Waking with a melody in his head, he recorded a voice memo on the spot and brought it to life in the studio the following day. That moment of clarity opened the door to an entirely new creative direction, one rooted in the jazz-funk tradition of Marc Moulin, Brian Bennett, Azymuth, Janko Nilovic, and David Axelrod.

Operating as a true one-man band, Rose Noir seamlessly blends organic instrumentation with digital production for a sound that defies what a single creator should be capable of. Each track unfolds like a scene from a classic film — layered with mystery, intrigue, and cinematic storytelling. His debut EP Bloom (Halfeti Records) introduced this world to critical acclaim and remains essential listening.

Rooted equally in hip-hop, Rose Noir has produced for underground stalwart R.A.P. Ferreira (formerly Milo) — including the single Black Palladin's Theme and two further tracks on the album 5 to the Eye with Stars. He has also collaborated with acclaimed Parisian multi-instrumentalist Moodoïd on the psych-pop EP PrimaDonna vol. 2, further demonstrating the breadth of his artistic range.

His relationship with Chillhop Music has become one of the most consistent and celebrated partnerships on the platform. It began with Swan on Essentials Fall 2023, a track that has now surpassed 464,000 streams on Spotify. Twins followed on Essentials Summer 2024 and proved an even bigger breakthrough — racking up over 454,000 streams while landing at #1 on Apple Music's Lo-Fi Chill and BEATstrumentals playlists, two of the platform's most-followed instrumental channels, where it held the top position for months. Among those who discovered the track was Jarrod Lawson, the Nashville-based singer, pianist, and composer whose previous album reached #2 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart. So taken with the composition, Lawson covered it, adding his own vocal performance and retitling it 'Do Whatchu Gotta' — crediting Rose Noir as co-writer, the original composer of the underlying track. The song was released as one of the two lead singles for Lawson's third studio album Just Let It (Dome Records, May 2026). That a beat tape instrumental could travel from a Chillhop playlist to the studio of a Billboard-charting jazz artist speaks volumes about the compositional depth at the heart of Rose Noir's work.

The Chillhop run has continued uninterrupted: Legacy (Essentials Spring 2025, 271,000 streams), Suspect (Essentials Fall 2025, 237,000 streams), and Saga, featured on the label's jazz-focused compilation Chillhop Space Jazz (October 2025) — cementing his place as one of the label's most consistently celebrated artists.

In addition to his Chillhop catalogue, Rose Noir has built a growing body of work on Alpha Pup Records — the LA label founded by legendary producer Daddy Kev. Channelling the spirit of Madlib and J Dilla, he blends obscure samples and breakbeats with his signature jazz-funk sensibility. Beat Tape 01 arrived in April 2024, followed by Beat Tape 02 in May 2025 — eight tracks merging 70s cinematic textures with modern boom-bap production. With a discography spanning jazz-funk, hip-hop, and cinematic composition, and collaborations reaching from the underground rap scene to the upper echelons of contemporary jazz, Rose Noir continues to expand the boundaries of what instrumental music can be.
